Frost Like a Pro!

There are two basic methods for frosting cupcakes: knife-spreading and piping. The former requires only one tool—the knife, of course! This is the way you watched your mother and your grandmother frost cupcakes, so if traditional is your style, reach for the silverware drawer. Piping the frosting on the cupcakes with standard pastry bags and tips is a simple way to add whimsy to your creations. The proper tools can be found at your local bakery supply store or online: try wilton.com or nycake.com for a variety of bags, tips, and other cupcake decorating supplies. Piping is an art form that requires practice, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find that it can be a quick and easy way to create professional-looking results. That’s the icing on the cake (excuse the pun)!
